The morning after

So I emerge today a little confused. There is some sort of uneasy comfort in neutrality. Uneasy as it is so unnatural, at least for me. How do you explain having no powerful opinions on the murder of Benazir Bhutto, the removal of Ribadu, the shenanigans of Ms Obasanjo-Bello, the abuse of so called child witches of Akwa lbom, the entire ebb and flow of the holiday season in the 4 very different cities I experienced it from. I am pregnant with information, ideas and thought that it is my natural prerogative to burden you with, seeing as my sanity might be jeopardized by the continued internalization of all such sundry.

However, back to that strange comfort of the balcony experience where I can stand anaesthetized and calmly observant of the actors whose sublime performances are only true so far as we buy into the construct that they are not only the most important part of the play but the writers, directors and managers of it, we being part of the they. It is all happening on a stage curiously suspended but mobile in the rolling tyranny of time. It is beautifully numbing to watch and were it possible, I would like to stay in that space but alas l fear that fool that I am I will jump on that stage and participate in that unending play the script for which no one seem to have.

You don't know what the heck l am on about? Does it look like I know myself? Lets just say I must go easy on the mind altering holiday season ingestibles. Curious, l only drink water but then does life itself not intoxicate?

Happy New Year all, its good to be back and of course it is going to be a brilliant year. How do l know? I don't. I choose.

Only water? Fire water, holy water, acqua vitae - all very intoxicating.
Welcome back, you were sorely missed. Can't wait to hear about the Madeleine Albright interview. I hope you were able to ask her opinion about the performance of her former protegee turned secretary of state - Condi?

hey funmi, spent new years watching u on you tube. I love love Yeni Kuti! She seemed liked the ideal guest it must have been a blast to interview her. I have loads of ideas for ur show!lol! I know im mad, will email u soonish. If ur open to it!

Oh yeah would like to hear ur view on Ribadu, why send him to NIPSS when there are so many institution which specialize in anti-corruption round the world, tres dodgy but rumour has it that Col Umar is taking over? I hope so becoz I didnt have Yaradua down as one who would promote Kleptocracy! Benazir shocked us all, but God no dey sleep.

Hey you...I've been looking for you like an american visa. I am sat here ready for you to offload. Perhaps I may glean some scraps of usefulness from your outpour.

In the meantime, you can pray with/for me. Nigeria is beckoning and for once I have the desire to return...slowly but surely so pray that I may be absorbed into the madness and spew madness as well.

Happy New Year Funmi. Nice to have you back. Read the article on the child witches, really made me sad. Ignorance mixed with poverty is a terrible thing. Some people really have no business giving birth to children I'm sorry to say.
As for the preachers...there will always be predators of human weaknesses,it is difficult to fight such people cos they are experts in choosing their victims, good example-Pastor KING.

Happy New Year, aunty Funmi.

Are you reading about Kenya's elections? It's got me thinking. 2007 & 2008 Are crucial years for Africa. We have elections in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa. So far, Kenya and Nigeria have been nothing short of a disgrace.

Let's hope SA and Ghana get it right. (I don't know why I wrote this rant!)

Hey Phoonmie!

I can't explain how it happened. Ur blog happened to be the first one I'm visiting this new year. And there it is, this lovely post, well-wordly crafted, ebbing with the lure and candour of a an Oscar-deserving movie script! Yes O. Well I don't know ur plans for the year. But consider writing that Great Book. So Gbo?

Hi FI!
Happy New Year to you! Hope this year turns out much better than the last… Glad you’re back. The Kitchen of Opinions looked kinda funny without the regular chef.
Just got introduced to your blogs recently and I must confess what a mind-blowing experience it’s been. I’m having some stress with the codenames though…
The Child is presumably your child and The Oracle’s most likely that friend you run to who seems to know EVERYTHING. Must be some difficulty with the Yoruba language because I can’t figure out what The Omowe stands for. And The Shrimp?
Can you give me an idea/description of what each nickname stands for without breaking their 007-style cover? Thanks! It’ll just make my reading flow easier…
Great job on the show, site and blog…
Happy New Year again!
