@ City people’s fashion digest awards 2006
Tee A and l were compeers at city people’s fashion digest awards recently. The theme was Ankara so there was a kaleidoscope of blinding colours and prints. There were also presentations by Regalia, Tiffany Amber, (sumptuous wearable clothes) and Adebayo Jones (flawless, timeless high fashion). I do not like to compeer events as they are usually badly organized and the MC who is up front trying to make sense of the chaos is usually the fall guy. There is also the protocol list with everyone and their cat wanting to be announced. Finally is the wahala with looking the part for me. The slinky black and white dress by that gentleman of fashion Frank Oshodi requires that one should not breathe, sit or pee.
Seriously you can only take it off from top to bottom and with assistance to untie the shoe laced plunging back, so that meant that l could not drink water or eat (tummy will bulge man) plus my six inches Zannottis were killing my back but the result is often worth the pain which my brethren and sistren is the true cost of looking good, pure pain. I did change into another dress, which allowed bodily functions, an elaborate beautiful Ankara and French tulle ensemble by MOMO but you cannot imagine the weight of the skirt and l kept praying that l wont trip on it. All in all though, it was a good night and magazines like city people, ovation, Thisday style and all the rest have helped to promote a burgeoning fashion industry in Nigeria, yet another area waiting to explode if we would just get some basic enabling infrastructure and policies right.
Most of the pictures are from backstage, wont show you the juicer ones though, and the hand grabbing my arm in one of them belongs to a photographer. Here they “handle” you into the picture. My attitude? I’m doing my job, they are doing theirs. Peace to the world.
More of the pictures can be found here

i love the black and white dress, you look the part. but then u always do. is the guy grabbing you arm a photogragher? if he his...... huuuh. all the outfit are really nice but i hear the prices are not for kids! my ears are on the ground to scoop a tailor good at copying to near perfection. till then, i can only look and like what i see.
your second outfit gave me goosebumps. yayyy for pictures. LOVELOVE pictures. thanks :)
You look really lovely and elegant. Nice pictures, thanks for sharing them.
I must say, you must have looked so elegant. I already have a picture in my head. You didn´t give full gist about how the gathering actually went. is this the only you got to take. Please, would really love to see more. Stay cindarellalike
Gurl you are wearing that dress oh! Haba? Very elegant.. wanted to see the Guiseppes. Nice pictures!
AHH Funmi! why did you tell us the guy is d fotografa? should have allowed our imaginations run wild ke!
Anyway, lovely pics. why are you holding back the juicer ones now? Se a ti se yin ni ma?
Hallo Aunty Funmi.
Well, seeing that you moderate your comments before uploading, i'll just say this. For the first time EVER, I saw you flustered, or somewhat intimidated during the interview with John Fashanu today. I've never seen you like that before and it kinda flowed into the other segment with the "indomitable lions of gboko guy". There was a lot of "ooooohhhs and aaaaaahhhhs" that i considered kinda wierd. Just thot to share my thots wiv you.
I saw your outfit in This Day Style yesterday and I was, as usual, enamoured!
I honestly regard you deeply! (Saying I love you might sound patronising, but really, I do!)
Well, I dont expect you to publish this. :)

Great post. You looked stunning. Do you happen to have a list of participating designers ?. I'd love to look them up.
Great post. You looked stunning....me likes ;-)
Great post. You looked stunning. Please can you post a listing of all the participating designers ?. I'd like to look them up.
Hi Funmi,
Heard about your proposed Love Life,Live Life concert. What is the update?
Loved the outfit....u looked FAB in it....from what i hear seemed like the event went well.
Nice pictures.. I really love that dress you had on, really did look like you wouldnt have the chance to breath. Some of the ankara styles I saw were kinda scary.. lol.. You are a correct person for posting pictures. I always wonder how events go down in NIG and we never get to see pictures online. Kinda Sucks!
you looked beutiful. by the way do u have pics of outfit you can display.
lovely pictures........loved your black and white number
well de show looks cool except is for lekpa people but u look great in it but stil tink u need som extra pounds
Mad, mad, mad...the black and white outfit is just tew mad!
Very bonze!!
Was one of the first to read this but kept quiet cause the flames you were emitting were going to scald my fingers into keylashing those typical oversabi nij women in their christmas tree costumes ..that is till I saw the general consensus swaying toward my opinion. You are just pure elegance, simply stated. Well,, after I begin to understand you peoples SUPER TURBO turbans on your heads (LOL);)
..Was one of those makeup artists named Eni? I bow, please where did she steal the skills?? BIGGUPS BYYCH!
What tummy? LOL. You look fantastic!
Haba, Funmi!!
Why were you envying SA women's backsides with a figure as wonderful as yours. Both dresses were good on you, but I like the black and white one.
Good job, as usual.
Funmi-love the clothes. The form fitting spaghetti strap dress with a checkered blk n wht. bust area matched w/ your black gele looks divinely simple yet sexy on ya! Looks good on ya mama! :)
I also luved ur makeup. Clean and simple n d best. Honestly, wahala me ni awon makeup. Haba! Kilonshele???? Abeg City People get in touch with Toni Payne or others like her for next time. The mis-matched foundations on skin tones, clown looking application of eyeshadows, lipstick and blush is highly disturbing and unacceptable on my Naija Queens! It makes them look ridiculous and distracts from the clothes. Biko, abeg, makeup emergency intervention kia kia.
what can is ay ive seen u many times and u always look fantastic, i saw some outfits at that show that scared me sha o, i cant lie some people just dont get it.
@ all, eri mi wu. My head dey swell. thanks all. The designers were Tifanny Amber, Adebayo Jones, Regallia and Skin by Linda Mesrob. There is a lot going on in this industry in Nigeria, a lot of talented people. The dresses can be expensive because of challenges with infrastucture and such which drives up the unit cost but there are brilliant tailors who can copy the designs for a fraction if you harrase them well enough. since l now know how you guys like the pics, l,ll try harder to bring pics from events and such.
@ANUOLUWAPO, sometimes a lot is lost in editing. that particular show was a two hour recording edited into 50 mins and some context might have been lost. l am not easily intimidated and John Fashanu does not intimidate me, l have interviewed the lowest and the highest from around the world. The indomitable guys? Maybe the heat, distractios and general chaos in the studio was uncounciously getting to me but hey l take your cmments on board and will look at the show again so l can grow. that a deal girl and thanks.
wat was ur dressing on monday abut na de season abi na wetin u know say my grandma no meet dat dress or de weavon so wat century. well it was cool so just teasing abut de topics on dat day itys cool
